Background info: It seems in life, God will put things or people in front of us. Sometimes we ignore them, or perhaps don’t know what to do. He will keep trying to get our attention. A Saint who’s supposed to come into our life to guide or help us will suddenly keep popping up through various sources until we have our, “Okay, I get it, you’re trying to get my attention.”
Well, it seems that this scenario happened to my friend and me with the Holy Face. Tammy and I (Geralyn), met on a pilgrimage trip to Medjugorje years ago. There are some people in your life that if you meet under the right circumstances and have the same views, it seems like you have known and cherished this person’s friendship your whole life. You can really relate to them through a Holy Spirit connection. Meeting with Tammy was thus the case. Even though we don’t live near each other_ one in the South Central region of the country, the other in the Pacific Northwest_ we still kept in touch.

Years after our pilgrimage, we both were visiting EWTN. During that time, we saw there was land for sale in Alabama. We talked about what would be possible to build a Holy Face Shrine there, not really knowing too much information about the Holy Face yet feeling really drawn to it. Remember, Jesus told Sr Marie of St Peter that he would do everything in his power to thwart this devotion, but satan would be unable to do so. We don’t have the land. There have been many crazy ups and downs with it, but we keep praying and giving it to God, letting it go and to what will happen. In the meantime, the Holy Face keeps presenting itself in “funny” ways.

About a year and a half ago, I had just gotten off the phone with Tammy talking about the Holy Face and decided to spring clean. While spring cleaning a drawer downstairs, I found a Holy Face medal in the drawer. Not remembering ever purchasing such a medal, that seemed kind of funny. A few hours later while cleaning out another drawer upstairs, I found three more Holy Face medals, looking like the exact one that I found earlier that day.
Other incidents with the Holy Face in my life was the inexplicable calling to sit by the the Sixth Station of the Cross during Mass with our girls when they were growing up. The Sixth Station of the Cross is where Veronica uses her Veil to wipe Jesus’ Face. In early 2024, I stumbled upon a book about the Holy Face which led to other books about the Holy Face. Then, through a series of inquiries and crazy turn of events in September of 2024, (an unbelievable story in itself), we became stewards of a Holy Face Relic from the Vatican. With documentation and Vatican seals from 1876 this relic of the Holy Face has been touched to Veronica’s Veil, the True Cross and the Lance that pierced Jesus’ side! This is the same type of relic that Venerable Leo Dupont had in his house. To say it’s been overwhelming for us would be an understatement. Having this relic feels like a great responsibility and an urgent need to get the message out there regarding the Holy Face Devotion.

Fr Lawrence Carney, the priest from Kansas who has been promoting the Holy Face Devotion for years now says he wants to get as many people devoted to the Holy Face as possible. He is seeking a million people. Working in finance before becoming a priest, he has an affinity with numbers. He pointed out that God in his Mercy blesses people exponentially. He takes this from Leviticus 26:8, “Five of you will put a hundred of your foes to flight, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand of them, till they are cut down by your sword.” Working out the math and exponential blessings, Fr Carney figured we need a million people devoted to the Holy Face Devotion to cover the seven billion people on the planet. Since Jesus said we will be like Veronica if we participate in this devotion, it only seemed logical to name this website, One Million Veronicas! Feeling called to go and spread this devotion, we have created this website to give out information and prayers, and are willing to come and speak at your parish and neighboring parishes about the Holy Face Devotion in your area. Please feel free to contact us.
We will talk about the history of this devotion, the church backing of it, the popes and saints who have supported this, as well as the miracles, promises and what a person can do afterwards to support this devotion. If you have been reading this and looking at this website, perhaps the Lord is calling you, inviting you to be a Veronica and help spread this devotion. This devotion helps right the wrongs against the first three commandments of the Ten Commandments. The first three deal with the sins against God and the last seven are for the sins against our neighbor. Fr Carney talks about getting right with God so that the last seven can be remedied. If we are not right with God, then it is difficult, if not impossible, to be right with our neighbor. When we sin against God and are blasphemous, we bring condemnation on ourselves. We need to get right with God. God will fight for us. By offering Jesus’ Face back to the Father in Reparation, we are fighting the battles of atheism and all the wrath that comes from the scourges of revolutionary men. Run into the battle like many saints before us. Jesus promises to those who are faithful with the Holy Face Devotion that their faces will shine brighter in Heaven.
